I don’t want to delete the Google Drive app from my Mac, of course. I just want to stop it from automatically launching when I boot or log in. To stop Google Drive (or any other item in your own list), all I need to do is click once on its name to select it and then.
- Apparently I wasn't getting Chrome completely shut down somehow. I just now closed it and then did a restart and it did not come up automatically this time. I was concerned because the settings in Chrome do not allow a selection to prevent launch at startup, only various ways to have Chrome come up.
- Jul 03, 2019 Delay Startup Apps with Delay Start. You can delay the launch of startup apps rather than disable them entirely. The third-party app Delay Start lets you set a timer for specific apps to control when they start up. Delay Start works similarly to the Mac's own internal interface. Click the plus sign to add a program to the list.
If Chrome is your browser of choice, it can be convenient. If you tried Chrome but switched back to Safari, like I recently did, it can be annoying. I still want to be able to use Chrome from time to time, but I don't want it opening on login or launching on startup. Luckily, there's a super simple way to get Chrome to stop launching automatically, and it only takes a few clicks!
How to stop Chrome from automatically opening at login
- Launch Chrome if it isn't running already, or hasn't been set to stay on your Dock.
- Right click on the Chrome icon on your Dock.
- Hover over the Options menu in the popup.
- Uncheck the option to Open at Login.
Note: These same steps will also work for any other app you want to prevent opening at login.
